More information
This Bohemian Glass Compote, made around 1915 in the Haida–Steinschönau region, combines a broad, open bowl with richly painted birds and botanical motifs. The transparency of the glass reveals the details from different angles, while the cut facets reflect and visually multiply the colours.
Five panels with scalloped blue borders encircle the bowl, each featuring a different bird among leaves, flowers and fruit. Hand-painted with fine black outlines, they combine blue, turquoise, green, yellow and violet. Four birds appear in profile, while one faces forward with its wings outspread.
The vertical facets of the upper section of this Bohemian Glass Compote contrast with the large oval cuts below, framed by black arches and small blue teardrops. Geometric bands and gilt lines complete the ornamentation. A short stem rests on a faceted polygonal foot, decorated with black scrolls and blue leaves that repeat the motifs beneath the bowl.
It remains in very good condition, with light wear to the gilding and small areas of the painted decoration, consistent with its age.
Diameter: 17.5 cm / 6.9 inches
