A striking mid-century Delft-style lidded vase by Royal Sphinx Maastricht, crafted in the Netherlands around the 1960s. This substantial ceramic piece stands out for its elegant blue and white hand-painted decoration and its rare sculptural Foo Dog finial, blending Dutch ceramic tradition with Orientalist charm.
The body of the vase features a lobed silhouette, with gently undulating vertical panels that enhance the rhythm and flow of the cobalt decoration. Each lobe is adorned with floral and lattice motifs in the classic Delft palette, applied over a finely tin-glazed crackle surface. The lid is crowned with a Chinese guardian lion (Foo Dog), adding both symbolic presence and sculptural value.
Its impressive scale and elegant proportions make it a refined statement piece in traditional, coastal, or chinoiserie-inspired interiors. Marked on the underside: “Royal Sphinx – Made in Holland – Delfts”, confirming its authenticity and origin. Excellent vintage condition. No cracks, chips, or repairs. Glossy glaze with natural surface craquelure. Lid and finial are intact and well-fitted.
