More information

This Herend Cleopatra sculpture, created and signed by Szigethy Nagy István, is an Art Deco Hungarian porcelain work from c. 1930, modeled in high-temperature porcelain with the bright white glaze characteristic of Herend during the interwar period.

The figure depicts Cleopatra at the dramatic instant of confronting the serpent. The kneeling body arches backward with a controlled and elegant torsion, clearly rooted in sculptural discipline. The face, with closed eyes and an upward tilt of the head, presents an expression of surrender, tension, and dramatic focus, perfectly defined in the modeling.

The hair falls in three compact, vertical strands, precisely formed and integrated into the neck line and upper back. The raised arm interacts with the serpent, whose curve merges naturally with the composition and directs the gaze toward the center of the torso.

Hands, feet, and joints are executed with great precision, free of mold imperfections or surface irregularities. The glaze is uniform and luminous.

The stepped base carries the impressed signature Szigethy Nagy István, and on the underside the HEREND stamp with crown and model number 5792, ensuring authenticity and period manufacture. This Herend Cleopatra sculpture shows all the defining traits of high-grade Art Deco porcelain.
