More information

This galle chrysanthemum vase is a refined example of French Art Nouveau glass made in Nancy, 1904–1906. Worked in layered/cased glass, the piece shows a softly tapering profile with a carefully balanced arrangement of chrysanthemum blooms—flowers traditionally linked to autumn, dignity and long life in East Asian symbolism. The warm palette moves from honeyed amber to straw yellow, allowing the darker floral silhouettes to read crisply against the ground.

The decoration on this galle chrysanthemum vase is executed with precision: overlapping petals and serrated leaves are articulated with fine internal modeling that creates depth and movement around the body. The surface retains an attractive sheen, and the transitions of tone reveal the quality of both the glass batch and the firing. Proportions are elegant, with a subtle lift at the neck that gives the composition vertical poise on a mantel or console.

Signature: inscribed *“Gallé”**, the asterisk denoting posthumous production under the artist’s workshop protocols immediately after 1904.
Condition: very good overall; only minor, honest signs of age consistent with careful display—no chips, cracks or restorations noted.
