More information

This Delft Wall Plate dated to the last third of the 18th century (c. 1770–1795) is a fine example of the production of the renowned manufactory La Hache de Porcelaine (De Porceleyne Bijl), one of the most important historic factories in Delft, active since the 17th century and especially valued for the quality of its tin-glazed earthenware and the refinement of its hand-painted decoration.

The plate features the well-known “Au Choux” pattern, characteristic of late Delft ornamental repertoire. The composition is organized around a large stylized central flower, surrounded by radially arranged foliate scrolls. The rim is articulated with alternating decorative reserves, painted in cobalt blue underglaze, creating a balanced and visually refined composition. The outer edge is highlighted with an ochre line, a distinctive detail typical of late 18th-century production and particularly appreciated in this type of Delft Wall Plate.

Made in tin-glazed earthenware, this Delft Wall Plate retains a slightly satin white glaze, over which the hand-painted decoration is applied with a confident and well-defined brushstroke. On the reverse, the hatchet mark associated with La Hache de Porcelaine is visible under the glaze, allowing for a firm attribution of both manufactory and period.

The condition is very good for an 18th-century piece, with light edge wear and small chips, as well as minor imperfections related to the firing process and historical use. These signs are entirely consistent with its age and reinforce the authenticity of this Delft Wall Plate.
