Made of hand carved pine wood, these mirrors are notable for their rich high relief decorations of fruit, bows and leaves in the corners, characteristic of the Baroque style.
The exquisite gilding work stands out, in which gold leaf is applied over a red “bol” base. The bol, a special clay used in the gilding technique, creates a smooth, porous surface that allows the gold leaf to adhere. In this case, the red color of the bol contrasts with the luster of the gold, creating a very attractive visual effect.
Originally, these pieces contained prayers and religious chants. Over time, the prayers were replaced by mirrors, probably mercury mirrors that retain their original quicksilver.
In good state of preservation, they present a beautiful patina with some signs of wear typical of their age.
