Antique Ludwigsburg 18th C. Porcelain Figurine: The Musical Couple

More information

Masterpiece from the Royal Ludwigsburg Manufactory (c. 1750-1800)

We present an exquisite group figurine in porcelain, an exceptional piece from the prestigious Royal Ludwigsburg Manufactory, Germany. This sculptural ensemble, dated from the height of the late Rococo period (c. 1750-1800), personifies the grace and sophistication of the scènes galantes, a recurring theme in 18th-century European porcelain.

The composition features a couple in a delicate musical idyll. The gentleman, dressed in period attire that includes a vibrant magenta jacket and a polychrome striped waistcoat, elegantly holds a mandolin. Facing him, the lady, in a detailed floral dress and a blue bodice, is seated before a harp, symbolizing harmony and conversation.

Every element has been meticulously modeled and hand-painted with a level of detail that reveals the virtuosity of the master artisans of Ludwigsburg. The quality of the polychrome enamel painting stands out, as do the application of delicate hand-modeled porcelain flowers on the base and the gilded accents that enhance the details of the harp and clothing. The authenticity of the work is corroborated by the manufactory’s mark, visible on the base.

This museum-quality piece, in remarkable condition for its age, is an invaluable addition to any collection of historical porcelain.
